Minister for Communities, Housing and the Digital Economy the Hon Leeanne Enoch joined with BlueCHP staff at our Windsor social housing project to mark the milestone achievement under the State Governments second action plan (the Queensland Housing and Homeless Action Plan 2021-2025) of its 500th housing commencement by a community housing provider.
BlueCHP CEO Charles Northcote said “we are delighted to be working in partnership with the Queensland Government to deliver much needed social housing across Queensland. Windsor, and its Lutwyche sister project, delivered under the Queensland Housing Strategy 2017-2027 initiative, have collectively to date provided 80 new apartments for social housing residents”.
Mr Northcote noted “the completions of our Lutwyche and Windsor projects signal our intention for a much larger program in partnership with the State Government to address the housing crisis. Having participated in the Queensland Housing Summit, BlueCHP brings leadership and the capacity to deliver much more. We particularly note the anticipated commencement of the federal Housing Affordability Future Fund in late 2023, and the appointment of BlueCHP’s Darren Mew to the Queensland Housing Supply Expert Panel”.
Minister for Communities and Housing Leeanne Enoch said the Windsor units would provide homes for some of the most vulnerable people from the Department’s social housing register.
“We are seeing the greatest demand in Queensland right now for smaller households requiring one or two-bedroom homes, which is why this development couldn’t have come at a better time,” Ms Enoch said.
Tenants are expected to start moving in next month. BlueCHP’s Lutwyche and Windsor projects will provide social housing to 80 households in the form of modern one- and two-bedroom apartments, close to public transport, healthcare, education, employment opportunities and only ten minutes away from Brisbane CBD.
“Our team work hard to provide homes to vulnerable people in our community who require an accessible, safe and affordable roof over their head” said Darren Mew, Executive Manager for BlueCHP.
“Our Windsor and Lutwyche projects are the culmination of work from a dedicated team across Government and the not-for-profit sector who share BlueCHP’s purpose to make a difference to people’s lives – to create a future where every Australian has access to a home they can afford. We recognise that is it our collective responsibility to solve the housing crisis and we are pleased to be partnering with the State to make meaningful progress”.
