BlueCHP Partners on Australia-first Renewable Energy Affordable Housing Project in Oberon

30 Mar 2026

BlueCHP Limited is proud to lead the delivery of a landmark affordable housing initiative in regional New South Wales, an Australia-first model that links clean energy investment with long-term community housing outcomes.

Through a strategic partnership with TagEnergy, BlueCHP will deliver The Pines Wind Farm Affordable Housing Project in Oberon, creating a minimum of 100 affordable housing beds as part of Australia’s first renewable-led, new-build affordable housing development.

BlueCHP CEO Charles Northcote and TagEnergy Managing Partner (Australia) Andrew Riggs announce the landmark partnership to deliver Australia’s first renewable-led affordable housing project.

A new model for affordable housing in regional Australia

BlueCHP is at the forefront of an innovative approach that integrates renewable energy infrastructure with affordable housing delivery, setting a new national benchmark for how major projects can create lasting social impact.
As a Tier 1, not-for-profit community housing provider, BlueCHP will develop, own and operate the homes, ensuring they remain affordable, well-managed and accessible to local people over the long term.
This project reflects a growing recognition that infrastructure developments must do more than deliver economic benefits. They must also respond to the needs of the communities in which they operate.

Responding to Oberon’s housing needs

The Pines Wind Farm Affordable Housing Project has been designed to directly address housing pressures identified in Oberon Council’s Draft Housing Strategy, supporting the region’s future growth and liveability.
By increasing the supply of affordable housing in Oberon, BlueCHP is helping to ensure that local workers, families and residents on low to moderate incomes can continue to live and thrive in the community.

Supporting the community during and after construction

A key feature of the project is its dual-purpose housing model, led by BlueCHP.

• During construction:
Homes will accommodate approximately 20% of The Pines Wind Farm workforce, helping to reduce pressure on Oberon’s local housing market.
• After construction:
The homes will transition into permanent affordable housing, owned and managed by BlueCHP for the long-term benefit of the community.
This approach ensures immediate housing support while delivering a lasting legacy of affordable homes.

BlueCHP’s long-term commitment to affordability

BlueCHP will apply its established build-to-rent model to deliver high-quality, professionally managed homes that remain affordable over time.
With capital and ongoing funding contributions from TagEnergy supporting affordability, BlueCHP will ensure:
• rents remain below market levels
• homes are allocated to eligible households
• properties are professionally managed for the long-term
This model provides certainty that the new housing will continue to serve those who need it most.

BlueCHP CEO Charles Northcote said the partnership reflects the organisation’s commitment to innovative housing solutions.

“BlueCHP is proud to partner with TagEnergy on a truly innovative model that will deliver long-term affordable housing for the Oberon community.”

Delivering high-quality homes for the Oberon community

The development is expected to include a mix of one and two-bedroom homes, designed to meet local housing needs and support a diverse community.
BlueCHP will work closely with Oberon Council and all stakeholders, including local communities, to ensure the project is shaped by local priorities and delivers the greatest possible impact.
Construction is planned to commence following the financial close of The Pines Wind Farm, with homes ready as the project begins.

Setting a new benchmark for renewable energy and housing
The Pines Wind Farm Affordable Housing Project demonstrates how clean energy developments can deliver long-term community benefits beyond electricity generation.

By leading the housing component of this initiative, BlueCHP is:

• pioneering a new model of renewable-led affordable housing
• strengthening regional housing supply
• supporting sustainable community growth

This Australia-first approach has the potential to be replicated across future renewable energy projects nationwide.
