Logan’s social housing system is evolving. Preparations are well under way for the hand-over by the Department of Housing and Public Works to Logan City Community Housing (LCCH), the not-for-profit organisation that will drive investment in social and affordable housing in Logan City over the next 20 years.
LCCH was chosen by the Department of Housing and Public Works to deliver the Queensland Government-led Logan Renewal Initiative, a key action of the Logan: City of Choice Two-Year Action Plan 2013-2015.
The 20-year initiative is about improving social housing for tenants and building a bright future for the Logan City community. It will renew and refresh social housing in Logan City and provide housing services to meet the needs of our growing and diverse community.
Later this year, LCCH will start to deliver the social housing services currently provided by the Department of Housing and Public Works through the Woodridge Housing Service Centre. The department and LCCH are now intensively engaging with tenants to ensure they are aware of the change and what it will mean for them.
LCCH Executive Director, Charles Northcote, said the Logan Renewal Initiative was a first for Australia and again demonstrated that Logan City was leading the way in building stronger communities.
“This is the largest social housing project in the whole of Australia. It’s the most important project in community housing that has ever happened.”
Mr Northcote said LCCH tenants would have access to a range of benefits not available elsewhere in Queensland.
“At LCCH, we aim to be more than just a housing provider. We’re also dedicated to making sure our tenants have a voice and are actively engaged in their communities.
“As part of our commitment to making sure our tenants have a bright future, we will offer a variety of community development programs designed to promote physical and emotional wellbeing and foster as sense of belonging.”
Social housing tenants: what you need to know about the Logan Renewal Initiative
LCCH will become your tenancy manager and manage maintenance and repairs, and other support services.
No tenants will lose their tenancy as a result of this initiative.
You will not need to sign a new tenancy agreement.
Your rent may change, but you should not experience any additional out-of-pocket expense.
You will receive the same level of service.
LCCH will operate from the same office as the Woodridge Housing Service Centre (11-13 Station Rd, Woodridge), with the same staff.
If you are listed on the Housing Register for social housing, your application will remain unchanged.
